THE INTERNATIONAL CLIMATE AGREEMENT
In December 2015, the Paris Agreement was unanimously ratified by nearly 200 State Parties from all over the world. This is the second legally binding global climate accord after the Kyoto Protocol that lays out a global framework to tackle climate change after 2020. According to the Paris Agreement, all State Parties shall respond to the climate change by means of ‘independent contribution’. The goal is to keep the global temperature increase to well below 2 degrees Celsius and to work hard to limit it to just 1.5 degrees Celsius.
